Community Outreach

Treehouse Shakers’ Outreach programs aim to serve our multi-generational audiences through our NYC performance season, school residencies, workshops and touring programs. Every child, no matter their income, location, and/or disability, deserves to have access to high-quality arts programming.

We partner with non-profits, community centers & schools to provide thousands of subsidized tickets to youth & families. Through these partnerships, we are able to reach children with disabilities and underserved populations who otherwise may not have access or the opportunity to attend live performances. We make every effort to make our arts in education residencies affordable to Title 1 and Headstart Preschools.

We purposefully strive to make our work accessible to all, and have Relaxed Performance options. These performances allow our work to accommodate more children and families through audience accessibility. Our adapted relaxed performances are targeted to schools and families seeking performances for children with specific needs.

Treehouse Shakers is committed to making our programming welcoming and accessible to all. If there is anything we can do to make your experience with Treehouse Shakers as accessible to you as possible, please let us know. Contact us at contactus@treehouseshakers or 212-715-1914 with any questions, suggestions, or for additional information about a school partnership.

Branching OUT

Our awarded initiative to support LGBTQIA+ young people and provide services to the community.

Branching OUT School Programs

Treehouse Shakers’ Branching OUT After-School and in-school programs are for ages 12-18. This award-winning program is for young people who identify as LGBTQIA+, or are seeking to become better allies. Branching OUT centers on discovering and exploring one’s story and identity through an intentionally artist-led format. During our community-based program, young people explore and reflect on their own story to create a larger, more meaningful experience, while gaining self-empowerment and gathering with like-minded peers. Through the guidance of our awarded teaching artists, young people will create narratives that will be turned into podcasts, writing, dances, songs or artwork.

Young people have the opportunity to learn new art forms, work with professional artists, and build a meaningful community.
